Conversation, Friends, Humor, Technology,

  • I started working govt in 1990.It gives me salary that is beyond standard. It gives me no satisfaction.

  • This article is nothing but a humourous take on the current situation of IT industry. I dint find anything related skilled/ not so skilled engineers/going onsites. Employees in this industry sometimes may feel like Rishabh. I just went through the below comments. Though I don’t know anyone personally but they are deviating from the actual thought of this article and taking things personally, what should be done..going to blore/Hyderabad, onsites bla bla bla. People may have different opinions but you can’t comment what the writer should have done in his life/career..

@Chandak… I wish Rishabh had more times at cha er dokan to know more about what others are thinking. \m/

    • Thanks souparno…I will definitely ask him….Not sure if he would do so, rather he might get interested about “Growing” during that break time….(Don’t ask me Growing what??)

  • Well said Yajna, this is a story of frustrated Engineer who only thought of on-sites instead of enhancing their knowledge base. Engineers should more look for learning opportunities instead of on site opportunities. TCS, Cogni is not end of the world. No one can learn everything in a day. So keep exploring various technologies that excites you. Engineering is not a job, it’s a passion and I am proud to be a passionate engineer.

  • Golpota khub valo laglo..chotto akta golpo..neatly written but message ta khub clear..Shottie mathay ei chintagulo ghore ajkal 🙁

    • Thanks Sangita, at least people are there who have understood the essence of the verbiage…..

  • din furoi nai vai..natun din suru holo..jodi indian IT& software industry sai load ta nite pare…technological superiority thukle kau kauke atkate pre na..

    • Eto bochhor sherom I chhilo dada, kintu e bochhor ta onno kotha bolchhe go….

  • Engineering er ‘Sohoj success formula’ ta ki? IT’r chakrir kon jayga ta thik ‘sohoj’ mone hoy apnar? Engineering ta ‘sohoj’ bhabe niyecchen bolei hoyto ekhon eto chap khacchen. Otherwise ekhono market e ‘skilled’ engineer der dorkar ba somman, kono tai kom hoyni.

    • Yajnaseni madam, thanks for your feedback. Well I don’t know if you are an engineer or not but by God’s grace(or curse) I am…and trust me in my not so small career of around 10 years in this industry, I have seen so many ups and downs…may be more than you…Do you really think in the 4 years of engineering, we are properly trained?? Do the students regularly follow the classes or all the universities have that amount of infrastructure to provide quality teachers? No, so taking engineering seriously or casually doesn’t make sense in my writeup anywhere…
I have seen people returning from onshore in the month of november with loads of appreciation, doesn’t get a project and goes to bench….eventually in the appraisal time gets the lowest rating just because he was not billable at that time. 2nd incident, all of a sudden a client account gets scrapped and all of its respective resources working in that project goes to bench. 3rd incident, a very hard working boy who genuinely deserves the first rating and onshore oppurtunity – his visa doesn’t get processed, instead a girl in the team who doesn’t even know how to write a “for loop” in a code, gets her visa just because her husband is already at florida and he manupulated the respective client accordingly so that she can go over there…
The list is never ending Yajnaseni, we are not always the author of our own fate. There are so many catalyst you would require in life to go up the ladder and sustain in this industry.
Definitely there are “Faadoo resources” who will always find out a way and switch companies like changing underwear and that’s why I have mentioned in my verbiage about the “mediocore” category….Do you really think all engineers in the world are exceptionally talented?? No right!! Then think before you speak…It’s always easier said than done dear friend…
Wish you a very happy weekend and thanks again for dropping in with your views…

      • 1. IT demands new skills because technology would continue to evolve. You HAVE to adapt and learn continuously. If you are not doing so, you would get obsolete.

        2. IT is NOT about books that you mug up to pass your wbut exams. It is an evolving industry. You need to learn while working if you want to evolve with it.

        3. IT is NOT about going to onsite and settle down over there and churn money assuming that you would never get fired even if you donot upgrade yourself.

        4. Spending 10 years in one company does not make you Mr. KnowItAll. Neither changing companies like ‘underwear’ is a bad habit. It is healthy if your techie self start getting rotten in one organisation. Changing companies actually give you much more exposure and lets you see many more ups and downs. Makes you stronger day by day both skill wise and emotionally.

        5. If your manager’s appraisal makes you feel low I would say you are actually a pessimist . And your write up is a reflection of that. In your comment above, each and every sentence reflects negative thoughts.

        6. People are not born brilliant or mediocre. They become what they believe.

I hope you start believing in good things and stop concentrating on the negatives. I am sure you’ll feel the change shortly.

Trust me. Don’t feel bad about not getting an onsite or a good appraisal. Stop giving the steering of your capabilities and emotions to other hands because you deserve to be MORE.

If you are in Kolkata, try taking a step outside (Bangalore or Hyderabad may be). You’ll feel the difference in no time.

        Wish you the best.

        -A fellow IT engineer.

        • Now you are taking things personally on yourself. My best wishes for you so that you can evolve and revolve more. Yes I am mediocore like many many other employess in this industry coz everyone cannot be so very brilliant like you. I would suggest you to apply your knowledgebase at NASA or similar place to trigger the next rocket. Trust me, you will feel more positive and remove all the negatives around you. You are wasting your career in IT dear friend…

          • Every word Yajna said comes from experience and is very true. Learn from it instead of ‘taking it personally’. Every brilliant people does not need to go to NASA. Every person is responsible for their own fate and not right to blame others for their fate and yes the brave fight it out. It is an industry which still lacks great people. only 2% of the people can write compilable code. There are business leaders who are abusing this industry and many people are letting themselves get abused. Fault lies on both sides. Just like any other industry it needs skilled people and one has to grow their skillset through the ‘right’ hard work.
I hv a little experience in this industry (both service n product) to comment. And as far as end of IT goes we hv not yet scratched the surface of what we can do.

Chhandak, your Bengali writing sense is crisp and expressive. Liked it!

But kindly listen to what Yajnaseni and Sayantan said below..they are quite correct with their experience(which is mine too). This write up may get viral in social media but has very little value in setting future direction for Bong IT chaps.
